Young people who are not members of the Scout Association may offer to volunteer within one of our groups, for a fix period of time (as required for the level of their award):
Members of Girlguiding UK aged 13½ -18 undertaking a Girlguiding UK award with a volunteering requirement
Young people aged 13½ -18 undertaking the Volunteering Section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Unlike the Young Leader Scheme, which is part of the Explorer Scout programme, DofE and Girlguiding volunteers are not referred to as Young Leaders and are not able to access the wider scout programme. They will be able to access Module A training and preferably complete this before they start their placement.
If your child is interested in volunteering as part of their DofE or Girlguiding Award please contact the relevant Group Lead Volunteer, who will seek approval from our District Lead Volunteer.
Once approved the placement can start and, should your child enjoy the experience so much (and we hope they do!) they may wish to become a member, we look forward to welcoming them into our district so they can benefit from the full Explorer Scout programme.
