Derwentside Explorer Scout Unit

Explorer Scouting is for young people aged 14 to 18 who want to take the next step in their Scouting journey, try new challenges, and meet new people.

As an Explorer Scout, you’ll take part in a wide range of activities such as camping, climbing, navigation, and water-based activities, as well as projects that support the local community. Explorers have more freedom to help shape their programme and develop independence and leadership skills.

Explorer Scouting also offers opportunities to work towards the King’s Scout Award and to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Those who choose can also become Young Leaders, supporting younger sections while gaining valuable experience and skills.
