Our groups
There are five Scout Groups, a District Explorer Scout Unit, and a Scout Network across Derwentside District. Each Group is rooted in its local community and plans its own programme, supported by the District, offering a range of opportunities for young people across Derwentside.
Some Groups share facilities. 1st Consett and 1st Blackhill are based in Consett, while the District Explorer Scout Unit has a base at 2nd Annfield Plain and also meets at locations across the District.
Scouting in Derwentside is very popular so many groups have waiting lists. Take a look at our group pages and complete the Membership Query Form, indicating the group or groups you are interested in. If they do not currently have places available, you may be offered a place at an alternative group.
There are opportunities for groups to come together as a district for activities and nights away. This gives them the opportunity to meet other Scouts and take part in larger events and activities.
Similarly, there are opportunities for groups in the 14 districts that make up Durham County Scouts, to take part in large events and activities.
