The district is an independent charity operating within the federated structure of the Scout Association and governing document. Members of the Trustee Board act collectively as charity trustees of the District Scout Council, and in the best interests of the district and its members.
The District Trustee Board plays an important role in the running of the district. The Board makes decisions and carries out administrative tasks to make sure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the district.
Membership of the Trustee Board is set up in a way that ensures the interests of the district and the District Lead Volunteer are represented and balanced. It also ensures a broad membership, made up of three types:

Co-opted
Neil chairs the District Trustee Board, making sure that it fulfils its responsibilities within the district. He is a non-uniformed member and works closely with Jason, the District Lead Volunteer to achieve the purpose of the Scout Association and the development of local Scouting, in accordance with the policy, organisation and rules of the Scout Association. He is the parent of an Explorer Scout and trustee of a group within the District.
Hilary provides administrative support to the District Trustee Board. She is a non-uniformed member and is a former leader in the district, former County Commissioner and currently the Chair of the County Trustee Board.
Nick keeps us right on all things financial. He is a non-uniformed member and provides financial administration, support and information to the Trustee Board and District in accordance with the rules and policies of the Scout Association and our legal obligations under the Charity Commission. He is also trustee of a group within the district and County Treasurer.
Jason provides overall leadership and management to the District, Group Scout Leaders and other members of the District Team. He supports the district to run efficiently, effectively and safely, and that Scouting develops in accordance to the rules and policies of the Scout Association.
Olly contributes to the running of the district by providing administrative support, strategic direction, compliance with relevant legislation and completion of the duties set out in the Scout Association’s policy, organisation and rules. He is also one of our District Youth Leads, a District Programme Team Member, former Leader at 1st Leadgate and former Scout at 1st Dipton,
Kerry contributes to the running of the district by providing administrative support, strategic direction, compliance with relevant legislation and completion of the duties set out in the Scout Association’s policy, organisation and rules. She is also the Group Lead Volunteer at 1st Blackhill, a District Programme Team Member for Archery, and former leader at 1st Leadgate.
James contributes to the running of the district by providing administrative support, strategic direction, compliance with relevant legislation and completion of the duties set out in the Scout Association’s policy, organisation and rules. He is a former Derwentside Explorer and former Scout at 1st Consett.
