Keeping your child safe
Scouting in Derwentside offers fun, challenge and adventure to over 350 young people across the District. We are committed to making sure that Scouting is enjoyable and safe for everyone who takes part.
As a parent or carer, you will have questions about how we do this, and we hope to provide the answers in our ‘Safe and Sound’ leaflet.
We have a clear code of behaviour (sometimes called the ‘Yellow Card’) which is given to all adults working in Scouting across the District – regardless of their role. Copies are displayed in each group headquarters. It is included in the training leaders receive and gives advice about how young people should be treated. We expect everyone to follow it. If you volunteer to help out with an activity, you’ll be given one too!
We have clear processes for dealing with any concerns raised. If you have a concern or question regarding safety or safeguarding in Scouting within the District, or have a concern regarding a young person or volunteer, you can speak to your Group Lead Volunteer or contact the District Lead Volunteer.
Alternatively, call the Scout Information Centre on 0345 300 1818 or email info.centre@scouts.org.uk, where your call can be directed to our dedicated Safeguarding Team.
