Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.
Adventure - at all levels and in many forms - is the 'essence' of Scouting. Rather than just extreme sports, it encompasses the many ways that Scouting challenges and stretches the lives of young people. We want to promote the message that for a Beaver Scout, waking up the morning after their first night away from home is as much an adventure as a Member of the Scout Network hang-gliding or scuba diving.
There are five Scout Sections for the ages 6 to 25:-
Beaver Scouts ................ 6 to 8 Year Olds. More...
Cub Scouts .......................8 to 10 ½ Year Olds. More ...
Scouts ...............................10 to 14 Year Olds. More ...
Explorer Scouts ...............14 to 18 Year Olds. More ...
Network .............................18 to 25 Year Olds. More...
For those over 18 there is also the option to become an adult volunteer helping as a leader, or you could join the Scout Fellowship.
There is something for all ages in Scouting.
There are six Scout Groups located around the district in Annfield Plain, Blackhill, Burnopfield, Consett, Dipton and Leadgate. There is also an Explorer Scout Unit which covers the whole district and a local Network Unit.

No matter what your age, or which group you go to, Scouting in Derwentside enables you to meet new friends, enjoy new experiences, learn new skills and conquer new challenges.

For further information click on one of links to find the group for you, or check out the section pages.
