This is the standard kit list for weekend camps for Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
Please make sure your child brings EVERY item on this list. Doing so will make their camping experience much more comfortable. If there is any item you do not have please speak to your section leader as they will usually have equipment you can borrow.
uniform (to be worn to travel to camp)
rucsac or holdall to put kit in
small daysac for trips out
sleeping bag
insulation mat (Karrimat, Thermorest etc)
unbreakable cutlery, plate, bowl, mug
changes of socks / underwear
changes of clothing
spare footwear (not their best trainers please)
warm coat / fleece etc
waterproofs (jacket and trousers)
warm hat & gloves or sun hat & sun lotion
hiking boots (wear so there’s more room in rucsac)
wash kit
towel
tea towel
torch plus spare batteries & bulb
water bottle
Packing vehicles and trailers to go away to camp is a difficult process for Leaders. To make it easier, please we don’t want to see…
Sleeping bags loosely rolled up in bin bags! If they do not fit in the rucsac or bag, tie them tightly and securely or use a compression sack, with your child’s name visible.
More than two bags per person
Things dangling off rucsacs, such as boots or wash bag
Loosely rolled insulation mats
We recommend…
Kit is labelled or engraved so it’s less likely to get lost. Especially uniforms and neckerchiefs as they all look the same!
Packing the things you are likely to need first (such as waterproofs) where they are easily accessible.
Taking nothing breakable.
Leaders cannot accept any responsibility for personal belongs, and there is no automatic insurance to cover them.
AS SCOUTS GET OLDER, THEY SHOULD LEARN TO PACK THEIR KIT THEMSELVES!
