Young Leaders are Explorer Scouts who  help at the younger sections (Beavers, Cubs or Scouts).

These pages provide Young Leaders with information which will help them in their role. They also provide information for Explorers who are not yet Young Leaders.

Questions and Answers:-
How do I become a Young Leader?
All explorer scouts can become a Young Leader. Simply ask your leader. If you are a scout you can move straight into the Young Leaders’ Unit, without becoming a member of the main Explorer Scout Unit.

What is a Young Leader Unit?
All Young Leaders are members of the District Young Leader Explorer Scout Unit. This is a separate unit, just for Young Leaders.

Can I be a member of the Young Leader Unit and the ordinary Explorer Scout Unit?
In short, yes. You can enjoy the activities and friendship of attending the meetings of the ordinary unit and the challenge of being a Young Leader.

Do I have do complete training?
If you become a Young Leader you will have to complete a basic training course (module A), before you can help at a section. This should only take an evening. You then start work towards the other training modules, which cover everything from first aid to how to run games.

Can I help at the Scout Troop I have just left?
You cannot go to help at the Scout Troop where you were a scout for at least six months after leaving.
