Derwentside Explorer Scouts in Kandersteg, Switzerland. August 2008

Derwentside Explorer Scout Unit was formed in September 2002, and is open to anyone aged between 14 and 18 years. We meet on Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Just like the other scout sections, we take part in a wide range of activities. Some of our recent events include go-karting, off road driving, orienteering, Quaser, a night navigation exercise and a week in Switzerland. Have a look through our selection of PHOTOS from past events to see what we do.
As an Explorer Scout you work towards three main Scout Awards - the Chief Scout Gold Award, Chief Scout Platinum Award and the Queen’s Scout Award. All of these awards correspond with the three Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, with the scout awards being set at a slightly higher standard, allowing you to complete both at the same time.
You can also become a Young Leader, helping out at any of the Younger Sections. Click on the link above for more information.
As in the other sections, the emphasis is always on having fun and enjoying what you do. In the explorer section we also realise that you want more say in what you do and that you may want more responsibility.
